As the first human rights center at a business school, we often receive students who wander in to ask about the types of jobs that exist in this emerging field. How are you able to turn your mix of business acumen and passion for change into a sustainable career? Since our inception, we’ve provided opportunities for undergraduate, MBA and law students to tackle some of the most complex human rights issues in business during their semesters at NYU. Starting this year we are pleased to announce two new exciting fellowships that will take them even further.
Graduate fellow Nayantara Banerjee (Gallatin '15) visits a subcontracting factory in Dhaka, Bangladesh, December 2014.
USCIB‐NYU Stern Business and Human Rights Fellowship
Beginning in the summer of 2015, The USCIB‐NYU Stern BHR Fellowship will enable first-year MBA students to join a specialized training program and complete a paid summer internship in business and human rights at a multinational company. They will work closely with executives at participating companies to help formulate and measure the companies’ sustainability initiatives and advance their human rights commitments. This year, we welcome DirecTV Latin America, Microsoft and PepsiCo as company participants.
Masiyiwa-Bernstein Fellowship
In partnership with the law school, the Center will host a recent law graduate who will spend one year working with us as the Masiyiwa-Bernstein Fellow. The fellow will work on various industry initiatives at the Center such as safety and labor issues in manufacturing, privacy and freedom of expression online, human rights metrics in investment decisions and recruiting practices in construction. We are honored to be one of the three organizations chosen for the fellowship in its inaugural year.
Our mission is to challenge and empower business leaders to make practical progress on human rights. By opening up career paths that prioritize human rights and sustainability to future business leaders, we are building change from the ground up. Watch this space for even more exciting opportunities to come!
